See each workshop for the specific Continuing Education Hours offered. Approval has been obtained for many of the programs. Upon request, all other professions will be provided with the paperwork necessary for self-submission. CEU approval sources:

  2. KY Board of Social Work.

Description:  Offered Monthly. 20 hour PRIME for Life risk reduction program. This 3 week class is an effective alcohol and drug program for court referred individuals or families, and other organizations and employers. Class times (evenings/mornings) vary to accommodate participants' schedules. QPR, Suicide Prevention

Description:  Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) is a researched based technique to help save a life from suicide. The participants will be trained to assess suicidal ideation, determine level of risk and determine necessary level of intervention. Counseling techniques to engage the client will be taught. Where a different level of care is needed, the participant will learn processes for motivating the client through with referral along with the necessity to follow through with the client during the transition. Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment: Location Cincinnati

Presenter:  Dr. Kenneth R. Conner, PsyD, MPH

Description:  This morning session at a Cincinnati location is repeated again in the afternoon in NKY. To register for the afternoon session, please use the listing below. The purpose of the training is to teach suicide risk management with substance abuse clients, including risk factors, warning signs, protective factors, and a four-step process for managing suicide risk known as GATE that is spelled out in TIP 50 and illustrated through a series of video vignettes. Each attendee will receive a copy of TIP 50. There will be a significant emphasis on the role of agency administrators and clinical leaders in creating policies and protocols that support effective treatment of clients with substance abuse issues who are suicidal.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to: (1) identify a four-step procedure for suicide risk management with substance abuse clients, (2) understand the difference between warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors for suicide and be able to recognize examples of each, and (3) recognize when to use regular supervision vs. immediate supervision in suicide prevention.

Open to all at a $20 fee which includes 3 hours continuing education credits. The Institute for Training and Development, through Talbert House, is an Approved Provider of Continuing Professional Education. Completion of the Workshop may be applied toward social work and counselor license renewal through the State of Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board, the Kentucky Board of Social Work, and licensure through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board and Kentucky Board of Certification of Alcohol and Drug Counselors - pending. Talbert House is recognized by the National Board of Certified Counselors to offer continue education for National Certified Counselors. We adhere to NBCC Continuing Education Guidelines. Talbert House is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association and American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Our state representative and legislator's point of view followed by Q & A. Mind Storm: take the opportunity to experience first hand what it is like to have hallucinations. It's a life changing experience to greater understanding.
