See each workshop for the specific Continuing Education Hours offered. Approval has been obtained for many of the programs. Upon request, all other professions will be provided with the paperwork necessary for self-submission.

Prime For Life Alcohol & Drug Education, KY DUI Approved - Available Monthly

Presenter:  Matthew Muir, BA Education, State Certified DUI Educator, Community Support Specialist, Mental Health America of NKY

Description:  Offered Monthly. 20 hour PRIME for Life risk reduction program. This 3 week class is an effective alcohol and drug program for court referred individuals or families, and other organizations and employers. Class times (evenings/mornings) vary to accommodate participants' schedules. For court ordered DUI offenses the initial required assessment is available which generates the forms to satisfy court and Dept. of Transportation requirements. Providing Effective Treatment with an ASL Interpreter

Presenter:  Michelle Niehaus, LCSW is the Statewide Coordinator for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services with the Division for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Addiction Services

Description:  This workshop will bring together mental health and American Sign Language interpreting professionals to address issues related to providing effective treatment. Establishing rapport as a treatment team, handling “sticky situations,” and creating an environment for pre- and post-sessions as well as mutual feedback to the process will be addressed. Participants will role play several situations from the perspectives of a therapist, interpreter, and consumer. Relationships will be developed to de-mystify the mental health interpreting experience and to create opportunities for future collaboration. Teaching will occur through lecture, discussion, and role play. Multi-media may be used. Focus Areas: Professional Counselor Collaborative Skills to Enhance Counseling, Social Work Practice for Special Populations. 3 hoursKY Social Work, OHIO Social Work and Counselor approved. Description:  Develop an understanding of the foundations for social work ethics and ethical decision making. Define the professional relationship and discuss limits, problems and dilemmas. Develop a further understanding of client self-determination. Define and differentiate between personal, societal and professional values. Participants will discuss case scenarios that pose ethical dilemmas and their potential solutions in community social work settings as well as medical, correctional and school settings. Course content meets the continuing education license renewal requirements outlined in 201 KAR 23:075; Section 2 (4). Participants will receive a copy of the KY Social Worker Code of Ethics. Opportunity to Save Lives - Suicide Prevention Education and Presentation Coordination

Presenter:  First Annual Caregiver Empowerment Confernce - Sponsored by S.O.C.C. a regional collaborative of Agencies

Description:  30 individuals are being recruited to attend a full day National Older Adult Conference on October 15, 2009 to learn about Suicide Prevention from a national speaker and through a proven hour long education course called QPR. To attend for FREE, each person must agree to help schedule two QPR trainings in their community within the following 6 months. People, like you can make a difference. This includes people from all walks of life, each with their own story. Some have lost loved ones to suicide. Others have attempted. Still others work or know someone who may be at high-risk for a suicide attempt. You might be a family member, beautician, active at a senior center, a church leader, or just a concerned citizen with friends or fellow employees that might benefit from participating in a one hour QPR training. You only need to help coordinate the followup training. You do not need to present. Join us in helping save lives.
