Please note due to varying grants and sponsorships, fees $ vary by workshop. Most are free unless you require certificates. The standard fee for Continuing Education Hours is $15 per hour. Some have one special general attendance fee.

Question, Persuade and Refer -- Suicide Prevention

Presenter:  Anna Stark, LPC, MSW, Director, LifePoint Solutions

Description:  Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) is a researched based technique to help save a life from suicide. The participants will be trained to assess suicidal ideation, determine level of risk and determine necessary level of intervention. Counseling techniques to engage the client will be taught. Where a different level of care is needed, the participant will learn processes for motivating the client through with referral along with the necessity to follow through with the client during the transition. Help for the Compulsive Hoarder

Presenter:  Joan Bowling, Kenton County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, University of Kentucky

Description:  Compulsive hoarding is a common and potentially disabling problem, characterized by the accumulation of excessive clutter, to the point that parts of one's home can no longer be used for their intended purpose.

Compulsive hoarding, may affect up to 2 million people in the United States, is often found in patients with other diseases, including dementia, Alzheimer's, schizophrenia and anorexia. It's most often seen in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

This 2 hour class will educate participants about hoarding tendencies, causes, current research, treatment, and possible methods to motivate a hoarder to change behavior. Participants are asked to please bring a personal item that they are unwilling or unable to discard or something they have not used in over a year. Not approved for SW or counselor continuing education hours.

DSM V: What's New?

Description:  DSM-5 (previously known as DSM-V) is the planned fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. It is due for publication in May 2013 and will supersede the DSM-IV which was last revised in 2000.
